Gaffer / Chief Lighting Technician

The Gaffer is the chief lighting technician on a film set. They are responsible for helping design along with executing the lighting plan to achieve the desired look and mood for a scene that the cinematographer has envisioned. Some duties include setting up lights, rigging, and power distribution, along with troubleshooting any lighting issues that arise during any time of production. The Gaffer works closely with the cinematographer to ensure the overall visual style of the production. Strong technical knowledge of lighting equipment and electrical systems, as well as creativity and good communication skills, are important for this role.
