This is a tool that a lot of people know well, we’re trying to make the UI as user friendly as possible. Please be patient with us as we try to get all the tools and information built into this site.
DoF = 2u^2Nc / (f^2 + N^2c^2) * 0.00328
Where:
- DoF = Depth of field (in feet)
- u = Distance from the lens to the subject (in feet)
- N = F-number (aperture ratio) of the lens
- c = Circle of confusion (typically assumed to be 0.03mm for full-frame cameras)
- f = Focal length of the lens (in inches)
And here’s the formula for calculating depth of field in inches:
DoF = 2u^2Nc / (f^2 + N^2c^2) * 0.03937
Where:
- DoF = Depth of field (in inches)
- u = Distance from the lens to the subject (in inches)
- N = F-number (aperture ratio) of the lens
- c = Circle of confusion (typically assumed to be 0.03mm for full-frame cameras)
- f = Focal length of the lens (in inches)
Just remember to use the appropriate units consistently throughout the calculation to get the correct depth of field value.
