A camera operator works closely with the cinematographer to ensure that their vision is crossly represented. The operator frames and designs shots to help the cinematographer and director achieve how they want to shoot a scene.

An operator will decide what tools to use that they think will best help get the shot. Including lens sizes and movements of the camera with a dolly or crane.
